A Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, Hon. Amos Friday Akpechi on Sunday said the governor deserves to be reelected for a second term in office in view his excellent performance in his fast winding up first term in office.

Hon. Akpechi, a successful entrepreneur and hotelier, said this in a statement on Sunday, noting that Obaseki’s first tenure is enough evidence that he is the man for the job for another four years.

According to him, if performance is the yardstick for electing leaders in a democracy, then the Governor should have no rival, as he has performed beyond expectations taking into cognisance the many hurdles thrown his way, including the economic downturn under which he had to operate since he took over the mantle of leadership in 2016.

According to him, in the last four years, Governor Obaseki has transformed Edo State with quality programmes and massive projects that have in turn created wealth and employment opportunities, especially for youths in the state.

He said: “Long collapsed businesses, abandoned agricultural sector and local food production have been revived.

“In the area of infrastructural development, Governor Obaseki has proven that he is a man of his words, having undertaken far greater projects in four years than his predecessor did in his eight years in the saddle.

“It is the belief of many residents of Edo that the governor, apart from being a performing one, has also been a fair one with a mind for equitable distribution of resources to every part of the state, and not a sectional leader like those before him.”

Speaking further, Hon. Akpechi contended that the opposition in the state as represented by the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole must be shown with a strong action on September 19 through the ballot that the state does not belong to one person or a group of persons determined to keep feeding fat on the resources of the state.

“Edo people must come out on September 19 and make a statement that Edo State is for Edo people and not for Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and his clique of vultures who want to continue to feed fat on the resources of the state.

“Edo people must make that statement that they cannot be slaves or subservient to a few privileged people. We must demonstrate that our independent mindedness and that pride that Edo is known for by saying no to slave masters coming under the guise of godfatherism, the same thing Oshiomhole fought against while he was governor.

“It is high time we demonstrated this by voting for Governor Obaseki so we can break their yoke once and for all. Governor Obaseki represents our collective wish for freedom from slavery, servitude and choking godfatherism. There is no time to do it but now”, Hon. Akpechi said.
