The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State may not abate as assumed, even with the reconciliatory moves made by the stakeholders of the party in recent time.
Following Engineer Segun Oni’s visit to Ijero Ekiti where he commissioned the Ijero Local Government PDP Family house and was received by tumultuous crowd. The warm reception has however triggered another cold war.
The acceptance and wholehearted reception that Engr Oni enjoyed a source told us didn’t go down well with Otunba Bisi Kolawole, the PDP State Chairman who also is an aspirant and a close ally of Ayo Fayose, the immediate past governor of Ekiti.
Aggrieved Kolawole we learnt called for a meeting in his residence on Thursday and summoned the five principal Officers, but the meeting was said to have further aggravated crisis.
One of the executives present and from Ijero Local Government narrated his ordeal to our correspondent. He said, “As the party chairman, we believe there’s nothing bad in honoring Kolawole’s invitation, what baffled me was how he started insulting us. I think it is our right to welcome any leader of our party, Engr Segun Oni is one of our leaders who I never had any issues with, why should he(Kolawole) be accusing me for attending Segun Oni’s PDP Family House’s commissioning program.”
“I tried to say my mind as a leader of the party in Ijero Local Government, he shut me up and arrogantly told us not to say a word, saying we are all expected to be following instructions from Fayose who made us party executives.
However, all our efforts to correct such wrong impression from Kolawole was proved abortive”he concluded.
Another party delegate who also attended the meeting was quoted as saying, “I was disappointed today because if I’d known BisiKay (as Bisi Kolawole is fondly valled) would be so enraged, I wouldn’t have honored his invitation. It is so embarrassing that he himself said he appointed one Mrs Rachael, Ijero Ward B Chairman to be monitoring our steps as if we are Secondary School pupils. Our party can not afford to have another autocrat as the governor who wouldn’t respect party leaders”.
Hon. Lai Onisile , Hon. Dayo Maxima and Mrs Yemisi Fajulugbe who were at the meeting have also been accused of sending the phone contacts of the attendees to Ayo Fayose with the promise that he would call them.
However, at a brief meeting held immediately after Efon meeting, our correspondent gathered that they resolved not to be intimidated and follow their conscience. They hinged their conclusion on the fact that they are delirious of going back to government and they know who Ekiti people want.
