Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface, who is currently on loan at Werder Bremen, has responded to critics regarding his recent performances with the Nigerian national team, insisting that a few challenging games do not define him as a footballer.

In an interview with sports journalist Oma Akatugba, Boniface acknowledged that he has faced struggles while representing the Super Eagles but emphasized his unwavering commitment to the national team.

“I have been unlucky with the national team in terms of scoring goals, even though there were a couple of games I was not good,” he admitted. Despite this, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent his country.

“My biggest dream as a football player was to represent my country and I achieved this, and I am grateful for this,” Boniface said. “Because it has not worked well for me with the national team does not mean I am a bad player.”

Boniface’s comments highlight the pressures strikers face at the international level, where goal-scoring form is often scrutinized. He reminded fans and critics that a few off days do not erase years of dedication and talent.

Currently plying his trade at Werder Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, Boniface has shown glimpses of his quality in Germany’s top flight, though adapting to different team dynamics has occasionally been challenging.

Nevertheless, he remains determined to improve and contribute to the Super Eagles’ success in upcoming fixtures.
