Fresh Clash Imminent As Alaafin Set to Instal Seyi Tinubu Okanlomo Of Yorubaland Against Ooni Choice

The feud between the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Hakeem Owoade and the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi may be ignited again as the son of President Bola Tinubu, Seyi has been nominated as Okanlomo of Yorubaland, a title already conferred on an Ibadan billionaire businessman, Dotun Sanusi.

Oba Owoade’s conferment of the title on Seyi Tinubu was disclosed in a flier circulating on social media on Wednesday.

As contained in the flier joined issued by the Oyo monarch and his wife, Ayaba Abiwumi Owoade, the chieftaincy installation is slated hold on Saturday, December 21, 2025, with members of the public invited to witness the occasion.

Also named in the invitation is Zamfara lawmaker, Sen. Abdul’Aziz Yari, who was conferred the title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland.

Confirming the development, the Alaafin’s media aide, Bode Durojaiye, in a telephone cnversation with newsmen said that the installations would proceed as planned.

“Yes, it is true. The Alaafin of Oyo will install Seyi Tinubu as Okanlomo of Yorubaland and Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari as Obaloyin of Yorubaland. An official press statement will be released shortly,” Durojaiye said.

Reaching out to Alaafin’s spokesperson he disclosed that an official statement will be issued soon as regards the development.

“The official release will be out hopefully today by evening or tomorrow morning. We are working on it.” He said.

This development is coming months after the Ooni of Ife conferred the title Okanlomo of Oodua on Ibadan-born Dotun Sanusi.The move had triggered and sparked a supremacy debate among the two topmost Yoruba traditional institutions with the Alaafim palace faulting the Ooni over the installation.

The power tussle was however resolved by stakeholders.
