The marriage between the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, and Queen Zaynab Otiti-Obanor has taken a dramatic turn following a public plea from his first wife, Regina Akume.
Regina, who represents Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, broke her silence during their son’s wedding reception in Makurdi on Sunday.
In a video that has since gone viral, she urged her husband to “come back to Christianity,” suggesting that his recent marital choice contradicts his faith.
“I pray the Lord gives him clarity in doing things right,” Regina stated. “He should remember that it was Christianity that brought him this far. To drop it now for anything else, he will not be successful. My advice is for him to follow the line of Christ.”
The SGF, who recently celebrated his 72nd birthday, reportedly tied the knot with Queen Zaynab—the former wife of the Ooni of Ife—just days ago.
The union was confirmed by family members who welcomed the “uncommon wife” into the Dajoh family on social media.
While Regina’s comments hint at a religious and domestic rift, aides to Queen Zaynab have dismissed the drama.
They claimed that the SGF and Regina had been living separately for a long time and that the people of Benue State have warmly embraced the new marriage.
The public appeal has sparked massive debate online, with many questioning how this development will affect the political and spiritual standing of the former Benue Governor.
