— Bala Mohammed

The coast is now clear and all set for the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) today, Tuesday, in furtherance of his political sojourn.

As earlier reported, Mohammed’s resolve to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, after meeting President Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership.

His intending membership of the APC was said
to have come at some huge cost to him as some of the conditions were said not to be as favourable as they were to others who joined the party before him.

For instance, the only thing said to have been conceded to him is the ticket to the senate. He would not be. Allowed to nominate his successor as governor of the state.

According to sources, the president was said to have insisted on handing over the structure of APC in the state to the party leadership, and not any individual, on account of the political sensitivity of the state, which borders many power centres and tendencies.

Although he was said to be rooting for a 60/40 power/structure sharing ratio, there were no clear indications if he had been able to pull that off successfully through the APC National Chairman, Professor Newante Yilwatda.

But other considerations, nonetheless, Mohammed has concluded plans to join the APC tomorrow at a ceremony to be witnessed all key actors of the party across the federation.

By his eventual membership of the APC, therefore, he would have marked up the ranks of the APC governors to 32, leaving the opposition PDP, LP, APGA and Accord parties with one each.

However, the timely defection will create two different moods for the two major parties.
As APC will be rejoicing that they have ‘trapped’ another prey from the enemy’s camp, PDP on the other hand will be in confution especially the Lamido faction who felt disappointed over the defection of not just an ordinary member but a Chairnan of PDP Governors’ Forum.
