It’s a known practice in Christendom today to see most acclaimed pastors using one means or the other to extort church members. Indirectly the major reason for church establishment is to enrich the so called general overseers as most of them are now rich even more than the congregation put together.
Contrary is the case of Prophetess Teleola Martha Oganla, a minister of religion and philanthropist who is the Resident Pastor of Messiah C & S Church based in West Norwood, London.
Call her Mother Theresa of our time and that will aptly suit her personality.
Her foundation, TMCO (Teleola Martha Christian Organisation (TMCO) is a non-profit charity that helps the poor, orphans, widows, and vulnerable people in Africa and in the United Kingdom.
The foundation has remained a source of joy to many both in Nigeria and in the diaspora.
TMCO Provides educational scholarships, regular feeding programs and free breakfast buffets, widow empowerment tools (such as pepper-grinding machines), clean water projects, and community infrastructure.
In recognition of her years of dedication towards uplifting the less privileged, especially in London and Africa, the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II awarded her British Empire Medal (BEM) as part of the Queens Honours List in 2020.
Prophetess Teleola was among the 1,495 which the Queen believed deserve honour for their selfless and caring deeds, she was appreciated for using her position to impact on the downtrodden, give hopes to downcast, and make other contributions to the development of United Kingdom (UK) and other countries.
The queen, in the list of honour to mark her 94th birthday, described the role played by Teleola as unique and that she merited the award due to her services that have continued to benefit thousands of people including foreigners.
The British Empire Medal (BEM) was created by Royal Warrant on December 29th 1922 to replace the Medal of the Order of the British Empire (1907-1922). The British Empire Medal is a British medal awarded for meritorious civil or military service worthy of recognition by the Crown.
The BEM was often given by the crown to someone that had offered self-less services to the public and did not engage in the act for gains rather to contribute his quota towards social development.
Teleola received the award from the royal family five years after establishing TMCO, a non-profit organization that cares for the needs of the poor, orphaned, widows, vulnerable children and adults living in the society especially in Africa.
And today the charity has made enormous, positive impacts
in the lives of many vulnerable people.
Before establishing the NGO in 2015, this cleric had been supporting vulnerable children and adults, widows, and women experiencing difficult relationships and domestic violence both in Nigeria and the neighbouring Cameroon and in the United Kingdom (UK).
Through her efforts, thousands have received better lifestyles, especially the youths that were victims of substance abuse. Parents have testified how her humanitarian actions have brought a change in the lives of their children.
And to correct the anomaly discovered in the society, the administrator, who is Vice-Chairman of Messiah Football Academy, established a youth group where children and young adults were educated on alternative positive lifestyles changes to deter them from a downward spiraling life filled with drugs abuses and crime.
Since she relocated to the UK in 2003, Teleola, through her outreach service and charitable organization, provides free breakfast to the community where she resides every Sunday.
The cleric, who received different honours for her activities, had through counseling, mentoring, nurturing turned hundreds of children’s lives around by giving shelter to homeless youths. The assistance has ensured the youths stay away from crime and drugs, many of the beneficiaries of her gestures are now impacting positively to the country’s development.
In Cameroun, Prophet Teleola has given succor to many especially widows, who were empowered in different capacities.
The organization had spent millions in dollars empowering widows with no visible means of livelihood.
“The widows under our care are not subject to monitoring solely due to our provision of support; rather, it’s a testament to our genuine concern for their overall well-being. We maintain an open channel of communication, offering them a direct line to reach out and engage in meaningful conversations with us.” She explained
“As for students receiving grants, we diligently assess their academic performances, as well as any specific needs or requirements they may have. At TMCO, transparency is a cornerstone of our operations, a fact well-known to our benefactors and sponsors.
Regarding documentation, we maintain a comprehensive list that compiles information about all our beneficiaries, ensuring a thorough record of our support efforts.
Talking about her role model, Prophetess Martha Oganla said;
” My principal Role mode is God Almighty. Giving Jesus Christ His Only begotten Son to die as a sacrifice for others to have a life. This Love is out of this world. It is an unconditional Love. Agape Love. Jesus even mentioned it as to let the whole world know that even though it was HIS Father God who gave him to the world but HE (Jesus) Voluntarily submitted HIS life.(John 10:18) which in essence pushed me to think back to my early years. How I was abused, maltreated and neglected as a little child of 12years. If not for Jesus’ love for me, I probably would have died in the middle of those hard and traumatic experiences and moments.
This however opened my eyes to those who might be living in such situations and I am willing and I am driven to continue to give back.
Prophetess Oganla holds a diploma in Secretarial Administration, a Bachelor’s degree in Theology and an Honorary Doctorate degree in Divinity.
After relocating to the United Kingdom in 2003, she decided to start giving back to the community and support vulnerable children and adults, widows and women experiencing difficult relationships and domestic violence.
This mission was further affirmed when she got a vision instructing her to support the needy and build an orphanage. She personally sponsors two orphans in Uganda; donates regularly to charities; and is responsible for the feeding, clothing, empowerment, and accommodation rent for another family of five orphans. She sponsors the education of a few other people.
She is married to Baba Aladura Prophet Michael Abiodun Oganla (JP) – the General Overseer of Messiah C&S Church Worldwide, and they are blessed with four children and 2 grandchildren.
Her hobbies includes but not limited to charity works, travelling, preaching, listening to gospel music and mentoring future leaders.
She’s however billed to receive the prestigious Metropolix Certificate of Commendation.
