Guber Polls: INEC Has No Candidate In Any State

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu has stated that the electoral body is not a political party and has no candidate in the November 11 governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states.
Yakubu made the comment during a visit to some INEC offices to assess preparations ahead of the polls, as contained in the commission’s bulletin in Abuja.
He shared that INEC is committed to ensuring credible elections in the states as the people choose their leaders.
“INEC is not a political party and does not have a candidate in the Nov. 11 governorship election.
“All we are going to do is to ensure that the people of Bayelsa and Imo States choose whoever they want to be their governors and our responsibility is to protect the people’s choice,” he stated.
Speaking further, Yakubu urged the Electoral Officers (Eos) in Bayelsa and Imo states to ensure that all Registration Area Centres (RACs) are fully activated early enough to enable smooth conduct of the election.
He further harped on the commission’s determination to ensure that poll officials live up to their responsibilities on election day.
