Two brothers by name Ayomide Babatunde and Gbenga Babatunde are born to the same mother though not financially bouyant, the two probably in their attempt to change their status in 2026 took a step that eventually landed them in trouble.
On December 27, the two siblings made a shocking decision that later boomerang.
On the said day they planned to kidnap a woman and her young son and sell them to people who buy human beings. To carry out this plan, they contacted a man named Jacob Olorunto. They told him plainly that they had two people for sale, a mother and her nine year old son.
Jacob was disturbed by what he heard. He quickly informed the Baale of the community, who then reported the matter to the police. The police asked Jacob to pretend he was interested, so the suspects would not suspect anything.
Jacob agreed. He continued the conversation with the brothers and negotiated the price with them. After some bargaining, they agreed on six hundred thousand naira for the woman and her child.
The woman targeted was sadly not a stranger. She was the girlfriend of Ayomide Babatunde. Ayomide convinced her to travel with him to Oja Odan in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and asked her to come along with her nine year old son. Trusting him, she followed without fear.
While on the journey, Ayomide stopped to pick up his brother Gbenga, who was part of the plan.
Together, they took the unsuspecting mother and her child to the Igbo Obe area of Oja Odan.
Unknown to them, Jacob was already there with police officers waiting. That was where the plot ended, and the brothers were arrested before any harm could be done.
It is a painful reminder that betrayal can sometimes come from those we trust the most.
The two brothers are now languishing in police cell.
