Godfather of Kano politics and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has indicated that the government under Abba Yusuf’s leadership is likely to reassess the legislation governing the Kano emirates.
Following Yusuf’s triumph at the Supreme Court, speculations emerged suggesting a potential reversal of the previous law that established the five emirates.
During an interview with Kano radio stations on Friday, Kwankwaso, a former governor of the state who also contested 2023 presidential election under NNPP, expressed confidence that the government would thoroughly reconsider the matter and take appropriate action.
“While no one has directly informed me about this matter, I believe the government will examine the entire issue and make necessary decisions. Whether the present government opts to retain or reconsider the existence of the five emirates, I am uncertain. However, what I am certain of is that the government will indeed revisit this issue,” remarked the senator.
Kwankwaso asserted that the former governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, had divided the emirates as part of his personal political agenda.
