National Assembly 2027: “Disregard Rumours of Endorsement” – Fayemi Clears The Air

As resonant voice is eagerly needed to actualize the yearnings and agitation of the constituents of Ekiti North Senatorial District for federal presence- citation of projects, employment opportunities, empowerment and other social amenities especially when the serving senator, Cyril Fasuyi is seen in some quarters as non performing, concerned constituents are now divided on who should be their representative come 2027.
Senator Cyril Fasuyi who has been in the senate for over three years and as a first timer has been facing a lot of criticisms especially from acclaimed Ekiti North youths under the aegis of a political platform opposing his second term bid.
Alleged derelict in duties is used as the reason to knock him down. His loyalists though defending him on the ground of being a first timer in the red chamber. According to them, it is still very early to start criticizing him, even when some of the projects he executed were analysed, it is not enough to stop the growing antagonists especially from the opposition camp who are hell bent on replacing him.
But as it is becoming a stiff competition, it’s quite obvious that whosoever is competing with him must try hard to build a stronger political structure especially when the governor, Biodun Oyebanji seems to be interested more in Cyril Fasuyi than any other aspirant.
There have been rumours of endorsement by the governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and other party leaders of one aspirant or another for the three senatorial and six House of Representatives positions in the state. This we gathered Senator Fasuyi is building on.
Senator Ayo Arise’s emergence to stage a comeback also is another factor that may distort the process. Senator Ayo Arise represented Ekiti North Senatorial District between 2007–2011 under Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His emergence was unexpected as many people believe he’s old and has since gone into oblivion politically but a recent development though unconfirmed revealed that immediate past governor, Kayode Fayemi is showing support for Arise and this may pave way for him.
At an APC stakeholders’ meeting at Isan Ekiti on Saturday, Fayemi has urged All Progressives Congress members and supporters across the state to disregard rumours of endorsement of any National Assembly aspirant for the 2027 general elections.
Fayemi, who said that the Electoral Act provides for consensus and direct election modes for the conduct of primaries, added that the condition for consensus is when all parties are in agreement.
Fayemi also acknowledged the importance of consensus in decision-making where all aspirants agree, said, “Elections are unavoidable wherever people fail to agree on a consensus mode of picking a candidate for the party”.
The former governor also expressed concern about new entrants to the party, saying he would not allow “tenants” to take over the APC from the aboriginal members in the state.
The former governor said, “There is nothing wrong with a new member joining, but there are proper processes that must be followed. We cannot allow anyone to seize control of the party”.
There have been rumours of endorsement by the governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and other party leaders of one aspirant or another for the three senatorial and six House of Representatives positions in the state.
Fayemi who wondered why any aspirant should be afraid of direct primaries, said, “Any serious aspirant must be ready to face a primary election by relying on their performance to speak for them”.
He stressed the need for adherence to the party constitution, principles, and the Electoral Act to guard against unnecessary litigation after the primaries.
Fayemi urged all aspirants, especially current elective office holders, to be ready to tell the people their achievements rather than relying on endorsements.
However, another formidable aspirant, Dipo Bamisaye’s ambition is becoming feasible with this latest development. A source hinted us that some stakeholders in Ekiti North have prevailed on him to drop his ambition to allow party decision works.
“This is the best approach as delivered by former governor Kayode Fayemi. It has shown the kind of politician he is. JKF is truly a democrat, a true democratic setting must give room for competition, especially when there are shortcomings from the incumbents. There’s need for the constituents to decide who rule them and not imposition of a candidate under the guise of consensus,” a concerned constituent told Metropolix Online.
