PDP Crisis: Bala Mohammed Rejects Move As Makinde, Wike Agree On Reconciliation

The party no doubt faces a major internal split. The Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the Board of Trustees (BoT) have moved to end the long-standing feud with the camp of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
However, this peace move has hit a brick wall as Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed reportedly rejected the reconciliation.
Following a recent Court of Appeal ruling in Ibadan that nullified the party’s November 2025 National Convention, the court advised both factions to seek an out-of-court settlement.
Seizing this window, Governor Makinde and the BoT agreed to set up a legal committee to draft a binding reconciliation accord.
This agreement aims to resolve the leadership tussle and allow the PDP to field candidates for the 2027 general elections.
Despite the push for unity, Governor Bala Mohammed, who chairs the PDP Governors Forum, skipped the expanded BoT meeting in Abuja.
Sources say the Bauchi Governor is unwilling to work with the Wike-aligned faction, citing deep-seated mistrust from previous leadership battles.
While the Makinde camp has postponed high-level party meetings to show “good faith,” Nyesom Wike has expressed readiness for “genuine reconciliation.”
Speaking in Abuja, Wike insisted that any peace talks must be transparent and held in the daytime, not through “night negotiations.”
He also confirmed that his faction’s national convention will proceed on March 29 and 30, dismissing calls for a new caretaker committee.
With the 2027 polls approaching, the PDP is racing against time to harmonize its leadership or risk going into the next election cycle as a house divided.
