Presidential Hopeful, Francis Onyema Speaks Exclusively On INEC, Newly Signed Electoral Act

Following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s signing the Electoral Act into law on Wednesday, the exercise which was greeted with mixed feelings from concerned Nigerians, Presidential aspirant, Francis Onyema however spoke exclusively on the issue;
“During the heated
national debate over real-time electronic transmission of electoral results, and the “Fix INEC” protests in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, I held several conversations with members of the Francis Onyema Reformist Movement (FORM).
At one point, I asked a fundamental question:
If the Senate adopts the infamous manual transmission of results, does it mean we no longer stand a chance against the old guard?
Today, I pose the same question to Nigerians, especially to the youths who must rise to rescue this nation from the grip of retrogressive leadership. Do we still stand a chance, even under a weakened or manipulated Electoral Act?
My answer is unequivocal: Yes, we do.
No electoral law is powerful enough to defeat an awakened electorate.
The current political class can be resoundingly defeated, with or without electronic transmission of results. But victory will not come through outrage alone. It will come through strategy, discipline, and collective resolve.
They can be defeated.
Every four years presents an opportunity for a peaceful revolution through the ballot. What, then, has truly stopped us – fear, apathy, or compromise?” Onyema querried.
“It is painful to admit that some of our youths, who should fight for the future with the conviction to do what is right, are recruited to mortgage that future for a pittance. This must change. We must adopt the urgency of reorientation as a clear strategy to redirect the cause of our great nation. Nigerians must be educated to understand that elections have consequences, and nation-building demands sacrifice.
Electoral reform is incomplete if it focuses only on technology. Even with BVAS, IREV, and electronic transmission fully operational, an uninformed electorate can still be manipulated into electing candidates who have nothing to offer. Technology strengthens democracy; consciousness, without a doubt, sustains it.
The time is now. We must act in knowledge and power.
