Tinubu Mourns Dokpesi As Management Reveals Real Cause Of Death

President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on Monday mourned the death of Daar Communications founder and owner of African Independence Television, Raymond Dokpesi, saying he would be sorely missed.

Dokpesi died on Monday at an undisclosed hospital in Abuja.

Tinubu’s condolence message was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by his media officer, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz

The President described the death of the media mogul as a huge loss to the Nigerian media industry and the country.

He said, “The death of High Chief Raymond Dokpesi is a blow to the media industry where he has played pioneering roles in private broadcasting.

His pacesetting investment in the industry is an inspiration to many who come after him.

“The history of the evolution of the Nigerian media industry will be incomplete without prominent mention of Dokpesi and his giant footprints on the media landscape.

“I express my sincere condolences to the management and staff of Daar Communications and the family of the late media entrepreneur for this monumental loss,” he said.

However, the management of Communications has revealed the actual cause of the death of the chairman, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi.

Dokpesi, founder of African Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower died on Monday at the age of 71.

the DAAR Communications Group Managing Director, Tony Akiotu, in a statement said Dokpesi fell off his treadmill during routine gym exercise and died.

He said before then, he had been ill in the last few weeks and was on his way to full recovery.

The statement reads: “He had been ill in the last few weeks but was on his way to full recovery. He had a fall off his treadmill during routine gym exercise.

“Further announcements as regards to burial arrangements will be made by the family.”

Dokpesi was born on 25 October, 1951 in Ibadan, Oyo State. His parents are from Agenebode, Edo state in a family including six sisters siblings. He entered the Nigerian mass media industry with his company DAAR Communications and set-up the Nigerian TV network Africa Independent Television (AIT).
