He Is ‘inconsistent and disloyal,’ Former VP, Namadi Cautions Tinubu Over His Dealings With Ex Minister

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Mohammed Namadi Sambo, has issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu and the current Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, urging them to exercise caution in their dealings with Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, a former Minister of Budget and National Planning.
In a statement released on Monday through his Personal Secretary, Mr. Yinka Ibrahim, Sambo described Dr. Usman as “inconsistent and disloyal,” and accused him of peddling falsehoods aimed at tarnishing the legacy of the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
Sambo’s remarks come in response to recent claims made by Dr. Usman regarding the 2013 privatization of Nigeria’s power sector.
Usman had alleged that the process was largely politically motivated, with decisions influenced by political affiliations rather than the technical and financial competence of the investors involved.
Sambo, who at the time served as Vice President and also chaired the National Council on Privatization (NCP), vehemently denied the allegations, describing them as “false, mischievous, and hypocritical.”
“The assertion by Dr. Usman that the 2013 power sector privatization was influenced by political considerations is not only misleading but also an attempt to rewrite history in a way that suits his personal narrative,” the statement read.
He further accused Usman of being a willing participant in the processes he now criticizes, suggesting that the former minister’s comments were driven by ulterior motives.
“It is ironic that someone who actively participated in and benefited from the same policy decisions is now attempting to discredit them,” Sambo added.
The former vice president also stressed that the privatization program was implemented transparently and based on recommendations from respected technical and financial advisors, both local and international.
Sambo’s warning comes at a time when President Tinubu is engaging with past and present economic experts as part of ongoing efforts to stabilize Nigeria’s economy.
By cautioning against reliance on Dr. Usman, Sambo appears to be signaling internal disputes among former top officials of the Nigerian economic management team.
