Let Them Give Us Our N600bn – Asari Dokubo Challenges FG Over Malami’s Comment

In a recent video shared on Facebook on Wednesday, January 12, 2026, Niger Delta activist and Kalabari chieftain, Asari Dokubo, reacted angrily to comments credited to former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, over issues surrounding recovered funds and accountability. Dokubo accused federal authorities of withholding money that rightly belongs to the Niger Delta people.

According to Dokubo, “Let them give us back our ₦600 billion; it’s our money.” He insisted that the funds in question were resources traced to the Niger Delta region and should be returned for the development of communities that have suffered decades of environmental degradation and neglect.

Dokubo argued that successive federal administrations have benefited from the region’s oil wealth while failing to address the hardship faced by local populations. He said it was unjust for the federal government, or any former official, to speak on anti-corruption without first accounting for monies allegedly taken from oil-producing communities.

The outspoken activist accused Malami of attempting to deflect attention from unresolved questions surrounding recovered loot and how such funds were managed. He maintained that transparency must apply equally to all regions and officials, stressing that justice cannot be selective.

Dokubo further stated that the Niger Delta has remained underdeveloped despite contributing the bulk of Nigeria’s revenue. According to him, returning the ₦600 billion would significantly improve infrastructure, education, healthcare, and environmental remediation in the region.

He also warned that continued marginalization of the Niger Delta could deepen resentment and instability. Dokubo urged the federal government to engage sincerely with regional leaders and address long-standing grievances rather than dismiss them with political rhetoric.

Dokubo further stated that true national unity can only be achieved when justice is done and every region receives its fair share of Nigeria’s commonwealth.
