N3m Ransom: Abductors Release ABU Female Student, Halimat

It has been reported on Saturday, March 19 that Halimat who was kidnapped on March 5 by bandits who wore military camouflage and halted an 18-passenger bus she boarded at Jere section of the Kaduna-Abuja highway has been released.

A post-graduate student of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State, Halimat Oguntoyinbo was kidnapped about three weeks ago.

The 28-year-old newly-married graduate of Geology had gone to the university to perfect the presentation of her final M.Sc project when she was abducted.

The kidnappers had established contact with the victim’s family and demanded N100 million as ransom, which they later reduced to N10 million.

It was gathered that after much persuasion, the hoodlums reduced the ransom to N3m, which Halimat’s family paid before she was eventually released on Friday, after spending 21 days in the kidnappers’ den.

In a Whatsapp message sent to our correspondent yesterday, the victim’s sister, Tawakalit Oguntoyinbo, said: “Alhamdulillah, she (Halimat) has been released by the bandits after payment of N3 million ransom.

“She is receiving treatment at a hospital at the moment. Thanks so much for the support…we appreciate you, sir.”
