Dr Seyi Adetayo, a former operative of the Department of State Services, has stated that security agencies relied on intelligence and technology to secure the release of the schoolchildren and teachers kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
In an interview with TVC, Adetayo said the rescue operation was carried out by the DSS, the Nigerian Navy’s Special Operations Squad, the Air Force and the Police. He stated that the agencies used intelligence to identify the kidnappers and people connected to them.
Adetayo said security operatives traced and arrested relatives of the kidnappers across several northern states, including Kwara, Niger, Kano, Katsina, Gombe, Adamawa and Borno.
Adetayo stated that the kidnappers’ relatives who were arrested were filmed and the video was sent to the kidnappers with a warning that their relatives would be harmed if they killed any of the kidnap victims in their custody
In Adetayo’s words: “They began to identify associates of those people, their mothers, children, wives and people close to them. They spread their dragnet across the northern part of Nigeria from Kwara to Niger, Kano, Gombe all the way to Borno State. They began to arrest family members, associates of these people. They did the video and sent the video back to them and said, ‘We have seen the one you killed, if you kill anyone else we will also kill your own family members'”
