Lagos 2027: Ambode Declares Support, Jandor Finally Withdraws As Ajose Plans To Scuttle Hamzat’s Ambition

What may stand as a clog in the wheels of Lagos State deputy governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat’s progress who has just been endorsed as the consensus candidate for Lagos State governorship slot come 2027 has finally reared its head as one of the aspirants, Dr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose has vehemently denied a circulating press release that falsely claims he endorsed Dr. Obafemi Hamzat as the APC’s consensus candidate for the state’s governorship race.
In a disclaimer circulating recently, Ajose condemned the unauthorized publication, describing it as malicious, fictitious, and completely contrary to his position. He emphasized that he had no involvement in the decisions of the Lagos APC Governance Advisory Council (GAC), which allegedly endorsed Hamzat for the 2027 elections.
“My attention has been drawn to the circulation of a false and unauthorized press release in the Nigerian media, purporting to convey my endorsement of Dr. Hamzat as the Lagos State Governorship Candidate of our Party, and my support for the decisions of the State’s GAC, a process in which I played no part,” Ajose stated.
He further clarified, “This publication is fictitious, unsanctioned, and malicious in intent. It does not represent my position, my campaign’s position, or the position of anyone authorized to speak on my behalf.”
Ajose urged the public, especially his supporters and the people of Lagos, to disregard the misleading content, asserting that it was part of an attempt to manipulate public opinion.
The aspirant also issued a stern warning to media outlets circulating the false information, demanding that they retract and delete the material within 12 hours.
Failure to comply, Ajose threatened, would result in legal action for reputational and electoral damages.
“This is a defamatory and potentially criminal instrument designed to harm my standing, and I will not tolerate it,” he said.
However, another aspirant, Jide Adediran who has been visiting stakeholders especially members of Governors Advisory Council even after the endorsement of Hamzat on Thursday finally bowed down to pressure as he issued out a press release to indicate his support for the deputy governor. In the statement, Jandor as he’s fondly called said he was driven by conviction, consultation, and a genuine desire to contribute to the progress of our state.
“I address you today with a deep sense of responsibility and clarity of purpose regarding the future of our party and our dear state, Lagos.
A few days ago, I took a decisive step in line with my aspiration to serve by procuring the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial election under the platform of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). That step was driven by conviction, consultation, and a genuine desire to contribute to the progress of our state.
However, leadership also demands the capacity to make difficult but necessary decisions that prioritize collective interest above personal ambition.
Following the endorsement of Dr. Kadiri Hamzat by our Leader, the President of Nigeria, and Leaders of our party in Lagos, and in recognition of the prevailing realities within the political landscape of our great party, I have decided to withdraw from the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial race.
This decision is not borne out of weakness or a lack of capacity, but out of strength, discipline, and a deep respect for party cohesion and unity.
Let me be unequivocal: I remain a loyal and committed member of the APC. I also reaffirm my unalloyed loyalty and respect for the President and national leader of our party, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. His leadership remains central to the stability and progress of our party and the nation at large.
In line with this, I hereby fully align myself with the position and direction of Mr. President regarding the Lagos State gubernatorial process. Party supremacy and strategic alignment are critical to sustaining the gains we have collectively built over the years.
To the Lagos4Lagos Movement, I extend my profound gratitude. This movement has never been about one individual; it has always been about a cause, equity, inclusion, and a better Lagos for all.
That cause remains alive, and it must now find expression in our collective support for the party’s chosen direction.
I urge all our supporters, leaders, and stakeholders to remain calm, focused, and committed. This is a moment to consolidate, not to divide; to build, not to fracture.
Politics is a continuum. Today’s decision is part of a larger journey of service, and I remain fully committed to contributing meaningfully to the growth of our party and the development of Lagos State.
To the media, I thank you for your professionalism and continued engagement.
To our supporters across the state, your loyalty and belief have been humbling. I do not take it for granted.
Together, we will continue to work for the progress of Lagos and the success of our great party.” Jandor has stated.
His wits and decision according to a reliable is borne out of the order from the president’s order who we gathered promised to secure a juicy appointment for him in his second term cabinet in 2027.
Even as the most preferred person for the seat, former governor Akinwunmi Ambode who many Lagosians believed would be reconsider for the seat has finally declared his support for Hamzat.
“I join my fellow members of the All Progressives Congress to congratulate my brother and friend, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, on his emergence as the consensus governorship candidate of our great party, the APC.
“Your deliberate and purposeful consultations with the party hierarchy and all members of the party have demonstrated you are a true party man committed to the party’s ideals and values of unity and progress,” Ambode said.
