In preparations towards the next presidential election, African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, on Friday met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja for discussions.

The meeting revived the longstanding relationship between both men, dating back to Jonathan’s time in government when Hayatu-Deen served on the National Council on Privatisation and chaired the Bureau of Public Enterprises during Jonathan’s tenure as Vice President.

The economist also later served on the Presidential Advisory Committee under Jonathan’s administration as Acting President and subsequently President.
Although details of the closed-door meeting were not disclosed, a source familiar with the development said the engagement formed part of ongoing consultations and efforts to strengthen political alliances ahead of the 2027 general election.
Jonathan was said to have warmly received the ADC aspirant and wished him well in his political ambition.

“Hayatu-Deen, who recently picked the ADC presidential nomination form, formally informed Jonathan of his decision to contest for the presidency on the platform of the party.
“During the meeting, Hayatu-Deen commended Jonathan’s role in promoting democracy and electoral integrity across Africa, describing the former President as a respected statesman on the continent,” the source said.

Hayatu-Deen, an economist and banker with experience spanning the public and private sectors, has anchored his emerging presidential campaign on economic recovery, job creation and tackling insecurity.
