Sheu Buba Breaks Silence: Gives Full Accounts Of His Relationship With Hassan

Following the allegations made against him by Hassan in the recently trending video on social media, Senator Shehu Buba Umar has provided a detailed account of his relationship with explaining how he became a beneficiary of his foundation and recounting the events that followed his decision to discontinue his education.
Senator Shehu Buba said his relationship with Hassan began through his foundation, which, according to him, provides educational scholarships and assistance to orphans and people in need, including support for sick persons.
“Alhamdulillah, my name is Senator Shehu Buba Umar. My relationship with Hassan is that I have a foundation that supports children, provides scholarships and assists sick people. Anyone who knows me knows this. The schools where I sponsor children include institutions in Bauchi, Al-Istiqama University in Kano, as well as Islamic and conventional schools. I sponsor the education of orphans, including those I know personally and those I do not know.”
He said Hassan was introduced to the foundation as a prospective beneficiary after informing him that he wanted to pursue his education and that his father was deceased.
“He was brought in as one of the beneficiaries of the foundation. He told me that he wanted to go to school and that his father had died. That was why he was enrolled among those receiving the foundation’s support.”
The Senator said that, given Hassan’s age and the need to provide him with an appropriate educational arrangement, he contacted Sheikh Yusuf Asadussunna, an Islamic scholar, to assist in securing a suitable school and Islamic education for him.
“When he was enrolled, I called one of our Islamic scholars, Sheikh Musa Yusuf Asadussunna. I told him that this boy wanted to study, but his age was somewhat different from that of the other children. I wanted a suitable school to be found for him, and I also wanted him to receive Islamic education.”
According to him, Sheikh Yusuf Asadussunna subsequently helped secure a conventional school for Hassan, while he personally provided additional support.
“Sheikh Yusuf Asadussunna himself found a conventional school for him. I bought him a bicycle so that he could go to school. He was studying, and he was also receiving Islamic education alongside the students of Sheikh Asadussunna.”
Senator Shehu Buba said the relationship later became strained after Hassan informed him that he wanted to discontinue his education and pursue a trade, including car dealing.
“After he completed one term, and then the second and third, he came to tell me that he wanted to stop going to school. He said he wanted to learn a trade and go into car dealing.”
The Senator said he advised Hassan to reconsider the decision, stressing the importance of the educational opportunity that had been provided to him.
“So I reprimanded him. I told him: ‘You are an orphan and you have already started your education. You should continue with your schooling. If you want to go into the car business, that is your choice, but I took you in and gave you the opportunity because I wanted you to go to school. If you do not want to continue your education, then there is nothing more I can do.’”
He said Hassan subsequently became upset and stopped attending school for between one and three weeks before eventually leaving his residence.
“After that, he became angry, saying that I had reprimanded him. He stopped going to school for about one, two or three weeks. Later, I was informed that he had packed his belongings and left.”
Senator Shehu Buba further alleged that, while Hassan was staying at his residence, he had been taking photographs and recording videos of visitors to the house.
“Everyone knows that people come into my house. Apparently, whenever people came to my house, he would record them on video and take their pictures. Whenever photographs were taken and appeared on social media, he would also take them.”
According to the Senator, Hassan began making what he described as defamatory statements and political propaganda after leaving the residence.
“After that, he left and started propaganda and defamation. He also found some social media people who began making statements.”
He said his legal representatives subsequently petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, after which the matter was referred to the Criminal Investigation Department for investigation.
“Without wasting time, my lawyer wrote a petition and sent it to the Inspector-General of Police. It was subsequently referred to the CID, and an investigation began.”
Senator Shehu Buba said four people were arrested in connection with the matter, with two arrests made in Kano and one each in Bauchi and Abuja.
“Four people were arrested—two in Kano, one in Bauchi and one in Abuja. And as I am speaking to you now, the matter is before the court.”
He further alleged that Hassan subsequently left Nigeria for Niger Republic and had continued to make statements from outside the country.
“At that time, he ran away and crossed over to Niger. Even now, he speaks from Niger.”
The Senator also alleged that Hassan had subsequently aligned himself with individuals whom he accused of attempting to exploit the matter for political purposes.
“Now, he has joined forces with people who want to engage in defamation for political purposes. If he has anything, if he has any genuine evidence, social media is not the place where he should be making these allegations.”
Senator Shehu Buba urged anyone with allegations against him to submit evidence to the appropriate authorities rather than rely on social media platforms.
“He should bring whatever evidence he has and present it to the security agencies so that they can investigate the allegations. If there is something genuine, let it be properly investigated and established.”
He also maintained that the allegations would not distract him from his activities, expressing confidence in God and in the formal institutions responsible for investigating claims.
“If Allah has decreed that something will happen, Allah will make it happen. Everything belongs to Allah. Allah gives to whoever He wills. I rely on Allah, and I put my trust in Allah.”
The Senator said his public record and activities should be judged on the basis of facts rather than unverified claims circulating on social media.
“People know what I do, they know what I am capable of doing, and the relevant authorities have the information they need. It is not a situation where a young man simply comes out and speaks on social media, or someone makes a statement somewhere, and then that becomes what everyone relies upon.”
Senator Shehu Buba reiterated that any allegation against him should be subjected to due process and appropriate investigation.
“If there is anything genuine, it should be taken to the security agencies, investigated and verified. But using social media to spread allegations is not the proper way to establish the truth. Wallahu A’alam.”
