Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung has raised alarm over what he believes could be the political implications of the legal cases involving former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai.
He cautioned that the judicial process surrounding the matter should be carefully scrutinized as the country moves closer to the 2027 elections.
Speaking on the issue, Dalung expressed concern that repeated court actions and stringent bail conditions could leave El-Rufai entangled in legal proceedings for years.
According to him, there is a possibility that several bail applications may be approved, yet the attached conditions could prove difficult to meet within a reasonable timeframe.
He argued that such circumstances could significantly affect El-Rufai’s political involvement and restrict his ability to engage actively in national political discussions and preparations ahead of the next general election.
Dalung further emphasized that the situation deserves public attention, noting that confidence in the judiciary depends on the perception of fairness and independence.
He urged Nigerians and key stakeholders to ensure that legal institutions are not viewed as instruments for advancing political interests or sidelining potential political actors.
