Veteran journalist and TVC analyst Babajide Kolade-Otitoju has hit back at public affairs commentator Kayode Ogundamisi accusing him of betrayal and deliberately twisting his words on social media.
In a strongly worded statement, Kolade-Otitoju said he once held Ogundamisi, popularly called “Sankara” in high regard.
“I used to think Kayode Ogundamisi was a reasonable fellow. I had known ‘Sankara’ for decades, but he has suddenly joined those who try to twist what I say on social media, deliberately quoting me out of context,” he said.
On the Osun Governorship Coverage, The TVC analyst addressed accusations that he worked against the re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.
According to him, critics cut out parts of his analysis and ignored where he highlighted the governor’s strengths.
“The same ridiculous fellows accused me of working against Adeleke being reelected as Osun Governor, just for reporting one factor I was told would impact the election. They cut out and ignored where I analysed the governor’s strengths and what could help him to win,” he said.
Kolade-Otitoju stated that his reportage was so balanced that Governor Adeleke himself appreciated it.
“To the glory of God, Babajide Kolade-Otitoju, the so-called ‘APC Journalist’ was so objective that Gov Adeleke, in the presence of his CPS, Malam Rasheed and Hon. Bamidele Salam of the House of Representatives, called me to thank me for my objectivity,” he said.
He clarified that he never predicted Adeleke would lose.
“There was nowhere I predicted Adeleke would lose. I only accurately predicted that the party that will win will win 19 local governments. Adeleke later won by winning 19 local governments.”
On the Refinery Comment and Ogundamisi, Kolade-Otitoju also addressed a viral claim that he said he “saw smoke in Port Harcourt.”
“Somebody accused me that I said I ‘saw smoke in Port Harcourt’ and I replied that I never saw smoke in Port Harcourt. What I meant was that I didn’t visit Port Harcourt refinery, it was Warri Refinery that I visited. I can only talk about where I saw flaring,” he explained.
He accused Ogundamisi of sharing a misleading video.
“Now a vacant-brained fellow posted a video purportedly debunking me. But it was a video where I was talking about Warri refinery. You didn’t debunk anything because there’s nowhere I told anyone that I went to Port Harcourt refinery.”
The analyst insisted he stands by his earlier position on the refineries.
“And to you, Ogundamisi, I have never taken back what I said earlier that the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries worked after their repair in 2024. The NLC president and the TUC President also confirmed that it was working because they took them to see the refinery in operation.”
“Una Go Lie Against Me Tire”
Kolade-Otitoju said attempts to bully him online will not work.
People think they can bully me on social media by lying against me. It’s a waste of time. Una go lie against me tire.”
He also dismissed rumors that he was angling to become a presidential spokesman.
“And Dear Ogundamisi I have no plan to become a presidential spokesman. I had a chance to become one which I turned down. I will never become anybody’s presidential spokesman.”
The exchange highlights the growing tension between media personalities over election coverage and public commentary ahead of major political events in Nigeria.
