Repositioning Online Media: otiti Meets President Tinubu’s Team, Presents Awards to Tinubu, Idris for Policy Reforms

The National President of the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG), Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, led a high-powered delegation on a strategic advocacy visit to Abuja aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Guild and the Federal Government.

The delegation met with the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. The visit was designed to position GOMEP-NG as a strategic partner in promoting government policies and fostering effective engagement through digital media.

Speaking during the meeting, Comrade Otiti noted that the rapid growth of online media has made it an indispensable tool for information dissemination, public engagement, and national development. He emphasized that GOMEP-NG is committed to supporting initiatives that promote good governance, national unity, and responsible journalism.

He stated that the purpose of the visit was to initiate discussions on a strategic partnership between the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation and GOMEP-NG, with a view to enhancing public awareness of government programmes through credible online media platforms.

Representing President Tinubu, Minister Mohammed Idris welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the Guild’s commitment to constructive engagement. He highlighted the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and outlined several reforms and policy initiatives being implemented by the Federal Government to improve the lives of Nigerians.

The Minister commended GOMEP-NG for its confidence in the administration and its willingness to support national development through balanced and responsible reporting. He stressed the critical role of the media in shaping public opinion, promoting accountability, and facilitating effective policy implementation across the country.

As part of the visit, GOMEP-NG presented Awards of Excellence to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in recognition of his policy reforms and leadership, and to the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, for his outstanding contributions to information management and national orientation.

Among those present at the meeting were Dr. Sule Haruna, Director of Media at the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, alongside other senior ministry officials and members of the GOMEP-NG delegation.

The visit reaffirmed GOMEP-NG’s commitment to partnering with government institutions in promoting credible online journalism, national development, and effective communication of government policies to the Nigerian public.
