After a Nitizen, one Mirabel has accused the “Duduke” crooner of pedophilia following resurfacing of old posts from her X account which allegedly suggesting she had sexually harassed toddlers in her mother’s daycare.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has responded to calls from critics to investigate the singer-songwriter and actress Simisola “Simi” Kosoko.
Allegations of child sexual abuse at her mother’s daycare centre was laid against the singer.
Gathered that social media users accused the “Duduke” crooner of pedophilia after old posts from her X account resurfaced, allegedly suggesting she had sexualised toddlers in her mother’s daycare.
How It Started:
It started 14 years ago when Simi was allegedly fawning over the penis of a four-year-old boy. The singer was 24 years old when she made the posts.
The disturbing posts were made between 2012 and 2015.
In one of the posts, Simi said, “This 4 years old boy’s D is good. I’m not sorry.”
In a statement on Sunday, the 37-year-old singer said she was not famous when she made the disturbing tweets and accused her critics of being a “faceless mob”.
“I haven’t been on Twitter today – but someone brought a few of my old tweets to my attention, and I can’t not address it. 14 years ago, I was 23, so I was definitely not a child. I’m not here to make excuses because I don’t have anything to make excuses for.
What I can’t let anyone do is twist my story to fit false narratives.
“In 2012, I lived and helped out at my mom’s daycare while I was hustling my music. I tweeted everything that happened in my life, as we all did at the time. Kids can be mischievous. If a child did something I found funny, I tweeted about it. Kids are cute and lovable. I want to hug, kiss and cuddle them. I tweet about it. Nothing I tweeted was from perversion,” Simi said.
She added, “I was not famous, so maybe if I was, I would have understood that anything is open to whatever interpretation, including being used falsely by a faceless mob. I’ve never been depraved in my life. You can retweet all the tweets in the world about me loudly crushing on people I admire/d. Or being a cheeky young woman. I wasn’t trying to hide it, because I don’t have anything to hide.”
Nigerians on X began digging up sexually inappropriate tweets made by Simi over the past few days in the wake of TikToker Mirabel’s false rape claim.
In her explicit tweets made between 2012 and 2015, the singer disclosed her obsession with kissing little children at her mother’s daycare centre.
On March 14, 2012, she tweeted, “David has a crush on me. He kips comn close; actin lik he wana lock lips n den he puts his head on my lap.Shd I giv him a chance? P.S: Hes 4.”
“Ok so dis 4 year old kid is lying next to me……practically almost kissing me cos he’s gazing in2 my fone *blink* I’m nt abt 2brk d boys heart,” Simi tweeted on February 17, 2012.
“I love to kiss d kids at my mum’s daycare – they’re super adorable and I’m crazy about ‘em,” Simi posted on X on June 1, 2013. “I think I’m slightly obsessed with this child, her October 28, 2015 tweet stated.
The 37-year-old came under scrutiny after speaking out about growing concerns over sexual assault in Nigeria, following TikToker Mirabel’s allegation of being raped in her apartment.
When Mirabel later admitted the claim was false, netizens unearthed several of Simi’s posts dating back to 2012.
Her admission prompted renewed calls from netizens for relevant authorities to investigate the matter and take decisive action.
NAPTIP Response:
In response to the concerns raised, NAPTIP stated on its Instagram page on Tuesday that it is committed to conducting a thorough investigation of all credible reports.
The agency urged anyone with factual information, evidence, direct knowledge, or who has been affected by the issues to come forward.
The agency’s statement read: “Following recent public discussions and concerns raised regarding alleged incidents of child sexual abuse/misconduct in daycare settings in Nigeria, we are committed to thoroughly investigating credible reports.
“We kindly request anyone with factual information, evidence, direct knowledge, or who was personally affected by the matters referenced in the viral posts or related experiences to kindly reach out to us confidentially. Via DM or email.
We take all reports of child sexual abuse/misconduct seriously and are committed to investigating every credible claim.”
This newspaper reported that the “Joromi” singer said her tweets were misinterpreted and manipulated to fit misleading narratives, emphasising that she had never acted immorally.
She noted that her public profile now subjected her past statements to intense scrutiny, adding that she had never attempted to hide her identity or deny that she had once been a young woman freely expressing herself.
The singer further revealed that her team had started removing some older posts out of consideration for her family, despite her initial reluctance to delete them.
“I was not famous, so maybe if I were, I would have understood that anything is open to whatever interpretation, including being used falsely by a faceless mob. I’ve never been depraved in my life.
