Despite being a polygamist himself, a statement made by Nigerian transport union leader Alhaji MC Oluomo during his daughter’s wedding ceremony has sparked intense reactions online about marriage, polygamy, and changing values among younger generations.

Speaking emotionally at the wedding, MC Oluomo publicly appealed to his new son-in-law to give his daughter what she desires most in marriage — peace of mind.

According to him, his daughter does not want to experience co-wife issues or a polygamous marriage.

“My daughter is not asking too much. All she wants from her husband is peace of mind. She doesn’t want any co-wife issues in her marriage,” he reportedly said during the ceremony.

The respected Lagos figure, who openly acknowledged being married to three wives himself, admitted that perspectives on marriage have changed over time.

“I know I married three wives, but that was then. Now that I am exposed, I can’t ask any of my wives to leave my house. But these Gen Z children don’t want a polygamous lifestyle,” he added.

He then made a direct appeal to the groom:

“Please, my son-in-law, don’t get married to another lady. Give my daughter peace of mind.”

The statement immediately sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many users debating the irony of a polygamist father advising his daughter’s husband against taking multiple wives.

Others, however, argued that his comments reflected experience, maturity, and a deeper understanding of the emotional challenges that often come with polygamous homes.
