Charged For Threatening Seyi Tinubu, DJ Chicken Gets N1m Bail

Controversial DJ and TikTok influencer, Ademola Abiodun, widely known as DJ Chicken, was brought before a Magistrate’s Court in Ogba, Lagos, on Friday, facing accusations of threatening the life of Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.
DJ Chicken appeared before Magistrate M.F. Onamusi on three charges related to an alleged threat to kill, behavior likely to disturb the peace, and violations of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015.
The case arose from a video the content creator shared on his social media while discussing the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
In the widely circulated video, DJ Chicken, speaking in Yoruba, stated: “Tinubu, you cannot win the election. If you do, I will kill Seyi Tinubu. I won’t elaborate further.”
The prosecution claimed that the video included statements that were interpreted as a threat against the president’s son, in violation of the Criminal Law of Lagos State and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015.
After facing public criticism, DJ Chicken released another video retracting his comments, claiming they were a joke meant to draw attention.
He insisted that he had no intention of harming Seyi Tinubu and that the remarks were part of his content creation.
Despite the retraction, the Lagos State Government moved forward with criminal charges.
The first charge alleges that the defendant posted a video threatening to kill Seyi Tinubu via his social media, violating Section 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The second charge accuses him of sending a highly offensive and threatening message through a computer network, contrary to Section 24 of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
The third charge claims that his actions were likely to incite a breach of the peace and were intended to intimidate or embarrass Seyi Tinubu, in violation of Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Magistrate Onamusi granted him bail set at N1 million with two sureties of the same amount.
The court ordered his remand at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre until the bail conditions are met.
The case has been adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
Meanwhile, DJ Chicken’s attorney, Rotimi Stephen, confirmed the bail, stating that the content creator is expected to be released on Monday.
In a video shared on his Instagram on Friday, Stephen said, “Update on DJ Chicken’s case. This morning he was taken to court—the Magistrate Court at Ogba. We applied for his bail, which was quite challenging. The opposing party did not want him to be granted bail due to the nature of the case.
“Fortunately, the court applied Section 115 Sub 2 of the ACJL, and he was ultimately granted bail. However, he is not released yet as we are still finalizing the bail conditions. But by Monday, we should be able to complete that, and he will be free.”
He expressed gratitude to supporters, noting that many people attended the court to show their support.
