N42m First Bank’s Debt: Court Picks May 17 For Remi Alabi, Others Case

A Federal High Court, Ibadan, yesterday adjourned the case filed by First Bank Nigeria and Read Agricultural Manufacturing Industry Limited (in receivership) against the firm’s directors, Mr. Remi Alabi and Mrs Ngozi Nwauma Alabi over alleged N42 million debt to May 17 and 18, 2022.
Justice Uche Agomoh adjourned the case following a request by counsel to the defendants, Chief Richard Ogunwole (SAN) to do so.
The case marked FHC/IB/CS/104/2018 was stalled on February 8, 2022 due to inability of the claimant’s counsel to obtain the Certified True Copy (CTC) of an earlier judgment of the High Court of Oyo State directly from the Court Registrar.
Though trial began last month and expected to proceed yesterday, it was however adjourned till May 17 and 18, 2022 following the request by the learned silk, Ogunwole, which was acceded to by the judge.
Speaking with journalists after the court appearance, Ogunwole (SAN), explained that he had to attend a case at the Supreme Court, hence the request for adjournment of the matter.
He said: “Incidentally, the case has been adjourned because I am going to the Supreme Court for another matter. We have no choice because of the nature of the case before the apex court, I have to come and explain to the court.
“We explained to the judge that we won’t be able to make it because of the case at the Supreme Court. The judge granted our request. The matter has now been adjourned to 17 and 18th May 2022.
“We had written the other counsel before we came here and he also came to court.”
The counsel for the claimant, Justice Akose, however, said he would love to see the matter finish on time.
