Adamawa Police Command have arrested 53-year-old Usman Tela Ahmadu residing in Samunaka, Yola North Local Government Area for sexually assaulting a mentally unstable minor.

The Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje disclosed this in Yola on Thursday.

He said the suspect, originally from Maiduguri in Borno State, currently lives in the area as an internally displaced person (IDP), relying on the generosity and sympathy of the local residents.

The suspect has already confessed to sexually assaulting the mentally challenged girl on four occasions since the beginning of 2021.

He added that expressing concern over the incident, Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, urged parents and guardians to fulfil their responsibilities in providing essential care for their children, thereby preventing them from falling victim to individuals with criminal intent.

He added that proactive measures are in place to curb gender-based violence and other criminal activities, particularly during these forthcoming months.
