A storm of explosive allegations has erupted from within the walls of the Kuje Correctional Centre, where senior officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service are accused of carrying out a chaotic and controversial search operation that reportedly left high-profile inmates reeling.

According to insider accounts cited in reports, the dramatic raid allegedly backed by operatives of the Department of State Services and accompanied by security dogs descended on the facility in what witnesses described as a “military-style sweep” that sparked panic across the prison yard.

At the centre of the controversy is former Skye Bank chairman Tunde Ayeni, who is alleged to have been stripped of a wedding ring and luxury wristwatch reportedly worth over ₦120 million during the operation. Another high-profile detainee, suspended police chief Abba Kyari, was also alleged to have lost about ₦2 million in cash in the same incident.

Sources within the facility claim the operation was led by senior correctional officers and carried out under intense security presence, with inmates describing scenes of confusion, tension, and alleged intimidation.

The allegations have triggered fresh outrage inside the facility, with some detainees reportedly accusing officials of abuse of power and misconduct during what authorities are said to have described as a routine search operation.

The source added that the development has generated tension within the correctional facility, with some inmates accusing the officers of abuse of power and intimidation.
Another source familiar with the incident said Tunde Ayeni was considering filing an official petition against the officers allegedly involved in the operation.

“The bank chairman wants to petition them as I speak to you,” the source added.
It was gathered that the incident occurred during what prison authorities reportedly described as a search operation within the custodial centre.

However, insiders alleged that valuables and cash belonging to some high-profile detainees were confiscated without proper documentation or accountability.
